Utility Poles – Red pine plantations start to break into pole-sized trees by the time they reach the 3rd or 4th thinning and require a minimum DBH of approximately 11.5″ with an average top diameter of 7″. Utility poles can go up to approximately 17.5″ at DBH.
House Logs & Cabin Log Components – House logs can be red or white pine and commonly start at a minimum of 18″ butt diameter and go down to an 11″ top diameter. House log lengths typically start at 32′ and can go over 60′. Cabin Log Components are usually shorter pieces of sawlog-sized red or white pine in the 8′ to 30′ range that are used for manufacturing cabin log siding, corner posts, wall ties and beams.
Utility Mats – Low grade hardwood sawlogs 16′ to 20′ in length to a 12″ to 16″ top diameter are sawn into square timbers and assembled into utility mats which are used as a road base for heavy equipment during the construction of utility right-of-ways.
